Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an informal method of settling disagreements that may arise. While issues are best addressed through the Individual Education Program (IEP) process, an ADR session may be effective when efforts to resolve disputes within the IEP team have been exhausted. ADR uses specific options of this process to promote understanding, open communication, and satisfying solutions to conflict that support and strengthen relationships. ADR is designed to meet the interests of the parties involved that results in a crafted, mutually agreeable outcome/agreement, rather than living with a decision made by a third party, such as a hearing officer or judge.
The ESGV SELPA has expert consultants on contract to assist in facilitating IEPs or conducting ADR meetings if voluntarily agreed to by all parties. For more information, please contact the SELPA at 626-966-1679.
